The area of Sanlitun in Beijing is most popular for its bar scene.  It is also the favorite hangout of expatriates living in Beijing, as well as the foreigners and the younger set.  Its popularity with foreigners is mostly due to the fact that Sanlitun is close to many foreign embassies in Beijing.

If Sanlitun is popular with expatriates, Wudakou is most favored by foreign students, due most likely to its proximity to various universities in the area.  There are plenty of karaoke bars and nightclubs here that are cheaper alternatives to the ones found in Sanlitun.
