The Forbidden City

Also called the Palace Museum of China or dubbed as Gugong in Chinese, the Forbidden City is the prominent palace in the Qing and Ming dynasties. Rectangular in shape with 74 hectares, its no wonder that it has the largest palace complex in the whole world. This palace has two divisions: the northern section where the emperor and his family live and the outer court where emperor's power is exercised over his people.

In history, it was in 1406 when the construction of the palace began. It lasted for 15 years for the construction to be completed and employed more than million workers to finish it. To date, the Forbidden city is a popular attraction not only in China but in the whole world.

The Temple of Heaven

There are five sacrificial temples in Beijing, the Temple of Heaven is the first temple among these five. Construction of the temple began in the year 1420. It covers an area of 273 hectares making it the biggest sacrificial temple in the whole world. The temple is partitioned into two groups: the Circular Mound Altar and the Hall of Prayer for good harvest.
